Annual MAPS Health Fair
Every year MAPS likes to organize a Health Fair with TCNJ Career Services in the Brower Student Center. Though we are still in the preliminary stages of planning the fair, this academic year's MAPS Health Fair will most probably take place on a Wednesday afternoon in March. There will be 8-10 representatives from many different schools and organizations, possibly including: a nursing program, local MD and DO schools, a vetrinary program, a pharmacy program, The Princeton Review, the US Army Medical Recruiter, carribean medical schools, physician's assistant program, physical therapist/sport's medicine program, and many more. Please let us know who you would like to see (ASAP) on the feedback page of this website and we can invite them to the fair! This page will be updated as more specific information becomes available.
Community Service Opportunities
Community Service Chair will be focusing on two main opportunities this semester: ROAR and TASK. Though there are several other volunteering sites MAPS members have worked with in the past (including Bridge to Employment with The Bonner Center and Reading to the Blind with Circle K), these opportunities will not be coordinated by the chair and will primarily be the responsibility of the interested member. If you would like contact information for these other activities (including Greenwood Nursing Home) please email [email protected].
Reach Out and Read (ROAR)
More information coming soon! Until then, feel free to contact [email protected] or [email protected] for more information.
Greenwood Nursing Home
Greenwood Nursing Home is a five minute drive away from TCNJ and is a great place to gain some clinical exposure. The Volunteering Department holds many activities throughout the week (including weekends) that MAPS members help out with. The staff is very easy to work with and the Greenwood residents come from all different walks of life. Consider regularly volunteering here for some experience in geriatrics. For more information, feel free to email [email protected] or [email protected]!
Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK)
More information coming soon! Until then, feel free to contact [email protected] or [email protected] for more information.
Fundraising Events
MAPS T-Shirts
Show your support for our organization and the things we do by purchasing a MAPS t-shirt! The money from these sales go directly towards funding our participation in regional and national MAPS conferences and conventions. These events provide members with an incredible opportunity to network, meet resources face-to-face, learn more about health-related professions and meet many of the speakers we invite over the school year! The 2010 yellow shirts are now only 5$ and the new 2011 light blue shirts are just 10$. If interested, email [email protected] or [email protected] with size and quantity. (Please note that the image to the right is NOT the shirt we are selling!)
Candy Body Parts Sale
Looking for something edible, anatomically accurate and fun to give to friends and family? Consider buying candy body parts! Great for Halloween festitivies, themed parties, or any biology-related gathering in general. More information on selection and pricing will be available on this page shortly. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] if interested!
Off-Campus Opportunities
Surgery Shadowing
Preference is given to upperclassmen and those able to drive other members. Though the experience is incredible, it is a full day committment. You leave at 5AM from TCNJ and drive to Cherry Hill and from there Capt. Stu will take a group of students down to WRAMC in Washington DC. There you will scrub into a surgery and be able to talk to several doctors working at the hospital. You will most probably return to campus at night (~8/9PM). It is a great clinical exposure opportunity and is highly recommended--especially if you are interested in becoming a surgeon. We usually arrange the trips on Fridays adjacent to or during a TCNJ break. If interested, please email [email protected]!
Regional and National MAPS Conferences
Members of TCNJ MAPS have the opportunity to attend various regional and national MAPS conferences throughout the year. These conferences are beneficial because they help you gain information and allow you to connect with lifelong mentors and friends that you will be able to look to when making important decisions. In addition these conferences will allow you to enhance your knowledge on what life as a medical student entails. The opportunity to have conversations with doctors and medical students will help you see the reality of a career in medicine. Overall, the resources you acquire from these conferences will help you become a well-rounded medical professional. More information about the regional conference is coming soon! Until then, feel free to contact [email protected] or [email protected] for more information.
